The Dunlop Rally SP85R is a highly versatile, classic-profile forest and gravel rally tire. While Dunlop’s newer, asymmetric Direzza (DZ) series focuses on maximum-load modern builds, the SP85R remains a legendary "all-rounder" staple, especially in Australian clubman rallying and for lighter vehicles requiring dependable multi-condition performance.

The SP85R is recognized across service parks as a "set-and-forget" forest tire. Its pattern is meticulously engineered to handle extreme variation across a single rally loop.

• All-Weather Versatility: The tread blocks feature an asymmetric layout optimized to transition flawlessly from thick, greasy mud or wet clay to dry, rock-strewn hard pack. It provides highly stable braking traction and robust lateral support, making it an exceptional choice when surface conditions are highly unpredictable.

• The Logistical Advantage: Unlike the strict directionally handed design of the DZ87R series (which requires separate Left and Right models), the SP85R features a highly practical, universal symmetric-casing fitment. It can be mounted on either the left or right side of the car and freely rotated to any axle position. For club racers or budget-conscious service crews, this means you only need to carry a single spare wheel to back up any corner of the car.

The Compound Nature

The SP85R utilizes Dunlop's core, highly durable Standard/Medium gravel compound (often corresponding to the traditional G6 or J6 equivalent matrix depending on production batches):

• Balanced Thermal Window: The rubber formula is firm enough to resist tread flexing, block distortion, and premature overheating on dry, hard-packed fire trails. At the same time, it retains enough elasticity to clear mud from its channels and bite through loose top-dressings on cold or damp forest loops.
